AI In Education

Aritifical Intelligence (AI) is a computer program that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence.  Generative AI is a specific kind of artifical intelligence that can produce new content by learning from data sets.  AI is changing education and can have a positive impact on instruction and learning.

Guiding Principles of AI Use

In Collierville Schools, our objective is to prepare students for a digital future by incorporating technology literacy skills into learning experiences.  We develop and implement digital literacy programs for both staff and students.  Collierville Schools uses AI tools to enhance instruction, streamline administrative tasks, and support student learning while maintaining ethical standards and data privacy.

The board policy sets forth guardrails for AI use.  First, only district appoved AI tools may be utilized.  Second, users must be compliant with district policies as well as state and federal student data privacy laws. Third, outputs from approved AI programs should always be verified by reliable sources and checked for accuracy before use. Finally, disclosing and explaining the use of AI is a best digital literacy practice.

We provide support for staff and students in their effective and ethical use of approved AI tools.  We regularly monitor and obtain feedback on the use of these programs to revise goals.
