Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why is rezoning being considered at this time?
On July 26, 2022, the Collierville Schools Board of Education authorized MGT Consulting to conduct a district growth and facilities study for the purpose of long-range planning. On June 27, 2023, MGT presented the results of their study to the Board of Education, along with recommendations to address ongoing issues of enrollment growth and building capacity. Based upon MGT’s findings and data-informed recommendations (available HERE), the Board of Education directed the superintendent on July 18, 2023, to commence the rezoning planning process for the 2024-25 school year.
2. Is there a Board policy that governs the rezoning process?
Yes. Collierville Schools Board of Education Policy 6.2041 (available HERE) prescribes an annual review of attendance zones and guides the process of rezoning, should the results of the annual review require it.
3. When were the school attendance zones last adjusted?
The current attendance boundaries were established six years ago, prior to the 2018-19 school year.
4. What were the findings of MGT Consulting that are necessitating rezoning?
• Several elementary schools (Bailey Station, Crosswind, Schilling Farms) are approaching inadequate space, while others (Sycamore, Tara Oaks) have unused classroom space available.
• A majority (61%) of community survey respondents support balancing elementary school enrollments through rezoning.
5. Which specific schools are being considered for rezoning?
The rezoning committee is studying the current attendance boundaries (available HERE) for all six of the district’s elementary schools.
6. Will the middle schools be rezoned as well?
There are no plans to adjust the attendance boundaries (available HERE) of either of the district’s two middle schools.
7. Who are the members of the rezoning committee?
The 26-member committee includes a parent representative from each school, various school district employees, and officials from the Town of Collierville.
8. What factors are being considered in the formulation of the rezoning proposal?
The rezoning committee is considering the following variables, among others:
• Ability of each school to provide equitable educational opportunities for all students
• Programmatic capacity of each school
• Geographic location of each school
• Anticipated student population growth
• School feeder patterns
9. Have final decisions been made regarding which neighborhoods are being rezoned?
No. The proposal from the rezoning committee is precisely that—a proposal. Per the policy cited above, public meetings must be held and feedback received. All feedback will be considered by the members of the rezoning committee and shared with the Board of Education for their consideration. All changes to the original proposal will be shared on the district's website prior to any discussion or vote by the Board.
10. When and where will the public meetings be held?
The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 14th, at 6:00 pm. The second will be held on Tuesday, November 28th, at 6:00 pm. Both meetings will be held in the Pickler Auditorium at Collierville High School.
11. When will the map of the proposed attendance boundaries be available?
12. Will students in the rezoned areas be offered the opportunity to remain at their current schools for the 2024-2025 school year?
- All rezoned fourth graders be allowed to complete the fifth grade at their current schools as transfer students, if parents agree to provide daily transportation to and from school.
- Younger siblings of these students may attend only their newly zoned schools next year.
- All students currently in Pre-K through third grade may attend only their newly zoned schools next year.
13. Will Spring Creek Ranch be included in the new attendance zones?
