Rezoning Information

 

After careful consideration of all public feedback, a review of pending capital projects, and consultation with both the rezoning committee and individual School Board members, Interim Superintendent Jones will be recommending the following at the January 16, 2024, Board of Education work session:

1. Postponement of the adoption and implementation of new elementary attendance zones until the 2025-26 school year.
2. Commencement of the construction of 13 additional classrooms at Crosswind Elementary School.

The rationale behind these recommendations includes:

1. After 30 years, Crosswind Elementary School requires both renovation and expansion to meet the ongoing needs of its current and future students.
2. The resulting increased capacity at Crosswind Elementary will enable the consideration of additional rezoning scenarios, potentially resulting in new attendance zones for all elementary schools.
3. An additional year of enrollment and capacity data for all elementary schools will enhance the incoming Superintendent’s ability to evaluate the accuracy of MGT Consulting’s enrollment projection model.
4. The incoming Superintendent will have the opportunity to develop and propose, rather than simply inherit, the rezoning scenario for which he will have the primary responsibility of implementation.

Should the Board accept these recommendations, therefore, the rezoning process will be paused until the next academic year.

 

On July 26, 2022, the Collierville Schools Board of Education authorized MGT Consulting to conduct a district growth and facilities study for the purpose of long-range planning. On June 27, 2023, MGT presented the results of their study to the Board of Education, along with recommendations to address ongoing issues of enrollment growth and building capacity. Based upon MGT’s findings and data-informed recommendations, the Board of Education directed the superintendent on July 18, 2023, to commence the rezoning planning process for the 2024-25 school year.
