School Social Work
School Social Workers can provide a wide range of services to students, parents, families, and school personnel. Some of those things include the following:
Services to Parent/Families:
- Assisting parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources
- Alleviating family stress to enable the child to function more effectively in school
Services to School Personnel:
- Providing staff with information to better understand factors (social, familial, health, etc.) affecting a student’s behavior and performance
- Providing direct support to staff (consultations, trainings, assessments, etc.)
Additional Services:
- Mobilizing family, school, and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program
- Counseling (group, individual and/or family)
- Obtaining and coordinating community resources to meet the student and family needs
Contacting the District Social Workers
If you are looking for assistance, you can let your school counselor know, and they will send a referral to the District Social Workers. You will then be contacted directly by the social worker to further explore your family’s needs.
